چکیده

In this study the integrated system for progressive collapse analysis, which can evaluate the damage level of every member and automatically construct the modified structural model for the next analysis step, has been developed. The existing nonlinear analysis program code OpenSees was used as a finite element solver in the integrated system for progressive collapse analysis. The developed integrated system includes a pre-processor with intuitive graphic user interfaces and a post-processor that can simulate the progressive collapse by 3D graphic animation. Using the developed integrated system, example structures subjected to a column failure were analyzed, and the behavior of the structures was investigated in the context of how to model the failed members and whether the dynamic effects are considered or not. The analysis results show that the dynamic amplification can be larger than two which is recommended by the GSA and DoD guidelines and the collapse mechanism depends greatly on the modeling technique for failed members. 2008 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Numerical Study of Progressive Collapse in Framed Structures: A New Approach for Dynamic Column Removal (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Progressive collapse is a situation where local failure of a primary structural component leads to the collapse of adjoining members which, in turn, leads to additional collapse. Hence, the total damage is disproportionate to the original cause. The most common local failure in framed structure is assumed to be column failure. In this paper, a new approach for dynamic column removal in framed s...

Probability Assessment and Risk Management of Progressive Collapse in Strategic Buildings Facing Blast Loads

Nowadays, as a result of increased terrorist and bomb attacks throughout the globe in the vicinity of strategic buildings, designing these structures against impact loads, particularly the blast-related ones, has been taken into more consideration. The current procedure for designing the structure against an explosion is a design against the local failure of the current elements in the first st...

Investigation of the Progressive Collapse Potential in Steel Buildings with Composite Floor System

Abnormal loads due to natural events, implementation errors and some other issues can lead to occurrence of progressive collapse in structures. Most of the past researches consist of 2- Dimensional (2D) models of steel frames without consideration of the floor system effects, which reduces the accuracy of the modeling. While employing a 3-Dimensional (3D) model and modeling the concrete slab sy...

Investigation of Double-layer Grid Space Structurer Resistance to Progressive Collapse

Considering the vulnerability of double-layer grid space structures to progressive collapse phenomenon, it is necessary to pay special attention to this phenomenon in the design process. Alternate path method is one of the most appropriate and accepted methods for progressive collapse resistant design of structures. Alternate Path Method permits local failure to occur but provides alternate pat...
